Situated amongst the lush green Mount Abu Aravalli hills in Rajasthan, the Dilwara Temple is the Jains’ most beautiful pilgrimage site. Constructed by Vastupal Tejpal and built between the 11th and 13th centuries by Vimal Shah, this temple is known for its opulent use of marble and intricate carvings at every hook and corner. The Dilwara Temple looks very austere from the outside, but once you reach the interior, you’ll go head over heels with the beautiful designs and patterns carved on the roofs , walls, archways and pillars.
The Dilwara Temple comprises five temples dedicated to Lord Adinath, Lord Rishabhdeo, Lord Neminath, Lord Mahavir Swami and Lord Parshvanath, namely Vimal Vasahi, Luna Vasahi, Pittalhar, Parshavanatha and Mahavir Swami Temple. Of these 5, the most famous are Vimal Vasahi and Luna Vasahi. Each of these shrines has Rang Mandap, a central hall, Garbhagraha, the Lord’s inmost sanctuary, and Navchowki, a group of nine heavily decorated ceilings. Some other structures that bound the spell include Kirthi Stumbh and Hathishala. Dilwara Temple teaches you about Jain beliefs and ideals, with its simplicity and austerity.
