Joshimath

Joshimath, also known as Jyotirmath is a town and a municipal council located in Uttarakhand district of Chamoli. It is situated at an altitude of 6150 feet above the Dhauliganga and Alaknanda mountains, in the snow-capped Himalayan ranges. This is also the path to many expeditions to the Himalayas, trekking ranges, camping and pilgrimage centres. Joshimath is one of four maths or monasteries that Adi Guru Sri Shankaracharya established in the 8th century. Joshimath is an important center of pilgrimage, with numerous temples and religious sites. The Temples of Narasimha and Bhavishya Badri are the famous temples located in Joshimath. Narasimha Temple is an ancient temple and main temple of Lord Vishnu.
