Why is Biometric Registration Mandatory?

After the 2013 Uttarakhand floods, the government faced criticism for inadequate disaster preparedness. Tracking stranded pilgrims and contacting families was difficult. To improve safety, the state made biometric registration compulsory starting in 2014. This system helps monitor pilgrim movement, enhance security, and streamline emergency response.
