Why Visit Ranikhet?

Ranikhet sits at about 1,869 meters above sea level. It’s home to the Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army, so you’ll see a lot of military areas, but it’s open to tourists. The town has pine forests, apple orchards, and old temples. It’s not as crowded as places like Nainital, so you can enjoy peace. People come here for walks, golf, or just to breathe clean air. From Delhi, it’s not too far, making it a good weekend trip. At Travel Shrine, we think it’s one of the best hidden spots in the hills.

Best Time to Visit Ranikhet

Picking the right time can make your trip better. Ranikhet has nice weather most of the year, but some seasons are better than others.

The top times are March to June and September to November. In March to June, it’s spring and summer. Days are warm (12°C to 22°C), perfect for outdoor fun like trekking or sightseeing. Flowers bloom, and the views are clear. Avoid the peak summer heat in Delhi by heading here.

July to September is monsoon. Rain makes everything green and fresh. Waterfalls flow, and rivers are full. But roads can get slippery, and there might be landslides. If you like quiet days and don’t mind rain, this is okay, but check weather updates.

October to February is winter. It’s cold (0°C to 15°C), with snow sometimes in December and January. Great for cozy stays and hot tea, but pack warm clothes. Skies are clear for mountain views.

At Travel Shrine, we suggest avoiding heavy monsoon if you’re driving, as roads from Delhi can be tricky. Always check the forecast before you leave.

Here’s a quick table on seasons:

Season Months Temperature Best For Things to Watch
Summer March – June 12°C – 22°C Trekking, sightseeing Crowds in May-June
Monsoon July – September 15°C – 20°C Nature walks, greenery Rain, landslides
Winter October – February 0°C – 15°C Relaxing, snow views Cold nights, fog

How to Reach Ranikhet from Delhi

Delhi to Ranikhet is about 350 km by road. There are a few ways to get there: by road, train, bus, or flight. Each has its pros and cons. We’ll break it down.

By Road: Driving or Taxi

Driving is popular because you can stop and enjoy the views. The distance is around 350 km, and it takes 8-9 hours if traffic is okay. Start early, like 5 AM, to avoid Delhi rush.

The main route is: Delhi → Ghaziabad → Moradabad → Rampur → Haldwani → Kathgodam → Ranikhet. You go on NH9 and then NH109. The road is mostly good, but hill parts can be winding. After Haldwani, it’s scenic with mountains.

If you drive, fill up gas in Delhi or Moradabad. Stops include Gajrola for breakfast (try parathas at a dhaba), and Kainchi Dham for lunch (famous for its temple and food). Watch for trucks on highways and use horns in hills.

Taxis cost about ₹5,000-₹7,000 one way for a small car. Book from apps like Ola or local drivers.

Tips: Carry water, snacks, and a first-aid kit. In monsoon, check for road blocks. If you’re new to hill driving, hire a driver.
