Tsomgo Lake which is popularly known as Changu Lake is one of high altitude (12400 feet) in India which is situated 40 Kms away from city at Gangtok – Nathu La highway. The lake becomes much attractive with the reflections of the surrounding hills on the water. From Gangtok which is at 5410 ft, the altitude rises to about 10,000 ft in only 15kms. You’ll imagine how steep the gradient would get on this stretch of the road. This glacial lake is legendary for its colour changing waters. Monsoons see a bright aquamarine lake whereas, within the winters, it freezes into a translucent cover of ice. Because the summer approaches in mid-May, the periphery of this lake is dotted with thousand blossoming flowers that lend the waters a riot of vibrant colours.
