Suraj Tal, also known as Surya Taal, is a sacred lake flanked by majestic valleys and magnificent mountains. It lies underneath the Bara-lacha-la pass in the valley of Lahaul Spiti, and it is believed to derive from the Chandrabhaga tributary of Bhaga. This magnificent lake is entitled to be the 21st highest lake in the world and the 3rd highest in India. It is also known as Sun God’s lake and it is believed that by taking a dip in this holy lake, you will cleanse yourself from all sins. During winters this lake’s beauty completely enhances as the surrounding mountains are shrouded by blankets of snow, and it seems no less than a heavenly dwelling.
The surrounding areas are largely uninhabited because the prevailing climatic conditions here are close to those in the Polar zone. The most prominent reason this lake has gained tremendous popularity is because this lake comes along the Manali-Leh road, which is extremely famous for bike trips and trekking. This sacred and stunningly beautiful lake is also a sight for any photographer as there seems to be something straight out of a storybook about the scenic beauty prevalent over here.
