Nahargarh fort

Nahargarh Fort

Nahargarh Fort is located in Jaipur’s Pink District, and is one of the many countless palaces and beautiful historic buildings that speak of this city’s magnificent and rich past. The Nahargarh Fort, embellished with delicate carvings and stonework, is an impregnable structure that once served as the powerful defense of Jaipur City along with its two neighboring forts-Amer and Jaigarh. The Fort was founded in the year 1734 as a retreat by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. The Nahargarh Fort is known for its extended wall that connects it to Jaigarh Fort with some spectacular views of the city. The fort is on top of a hill and you can rent a cabin or autorickshaw at the foot of the hill and walk the rest of the way.

Nahargarh Fort was used mainly as a refuge for the royal household ladies and has a female section called ‘Zenana.’ The ‘Zenana’ was designed by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, also known as the Madhavendra Bhavan. Its counterpart, the ‘Mardana Mahal’ was also constructed for the royal men at the site. The Nahargarh Biological Park, which is an sanctuary for magnificent animals such as tigers, leopards and Asian lions, is another draw in the Nahargarh Fort. The Padao Restaurant is also a must-visit if you’re close to Fort Nahargarh from where you’re sure to enjoy a panoramic view of Jaipur City.
