Mehrangarh fort was founded by Rao Jodha in the year 1459, considered one of the most formidable and majestic forts of Rajasthan. The fort is spread over an area of 5 km, and is situated in the outskirts of Jodhpur City on a 125 m high hill. There are seven gates that can be used to enter fort Mehrangarh. These 7 gates are made by various kings, and designed in honor of victory over the armies of Bikaner and Jaipur.

From this fort, one can see the panoramic view of the city of Jodhpur, which appears as a blue carpet laid at the foot of a hill. Every Jodhpur ruler contributed to the development of this fort. The magnificent palaces can be seen inside the Fort. Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Zenana Dude, Takht Vilas and Jhanki Mahal are the main palaces located at the Mehrangarh Fort.
