Another highlight is the Kumbhalgarh Fort, which tops the list of places to visit in Udaipur. It is situated 64 km from the main town and is the second significant structure after the fort of Chittorgarh. In the lap of Aravalli Ranges, this magnificent structure was designed by Rana Kumbha in the 15th century. It is surrounded by thirteen range mountain peaks and situated at an elevation of 1,914 m. The majestic fort is situated in the center of a forest that has been turned into a sanctuary for wildlife.
Under the reign of Mewar kings in Rajasthan, the magnificent fort was built between 1443 A.D. and 1458 by Rana Kumbha in the 15th century under the leadership of Mandan who was a very renowned architect of that period. The fort was built in the exact same location where there was an old castle that was attributed to Samprati who was a second-century BC prince of Jaina. The fort is also the birthplace of one of Mewar’s most important Rulers, Maharana Pratap. Also, Rana Fateh Singh, who was one of the most successful builders of the period, built Badal Mahal within the Fort.
