Kibber

Kibber is a picturesque little village in Himachal Pradesh, in the higher regions of Spiti Valley. Kibber is also known as Kyibar, for the Kibber Monastery and the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary. This small, recluse village consists of only 80 houses with a population of about 366. Kibber is regarded as the highest motorable village in the world, standing at an altitude of 4270 metres. Surrounded by the Himalayas, this village attracts a great number of trekking and mountaineering tourists each year. It is also a favorite summer camping spot.
The most special feature is the houses in this village. Identical to look at, all the houses are built of stone rather than the adobe brick used in other parts of Spiti Valley. Owing to underdeveloped roadways, transport is a challenge at Kibber. You can either take advantage of the regular bus service that connects Kibber to Kaza or fly by shared taxi. But if you don’t want to travel it is best to have your own means of transportation. Although the location is remote, Kibber has its own hospital and clinic, school, post office, telegraph office, and a community television set. Kibber is a must-visit for all the surrounding mountains, green meadows and all the beauty of its nature.
