Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh designed the renowned Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Winds in 1799 as a continuation to the stunning City Palace. Lal Chand Ustad is the main architect of this palace, and it is believed that the palace was designed in the shape of the crown of Krishna, the Hindu God. One can get a spectacular view of Jaipur City from Hawa Mahal. A great number of tourists visit the monument every year. The best time to view this monument as it looks particularly magnificent is early morning during sunrise.

Hawa Mahal had been designed in the architectural style of Rajputana. The palace is made of stunning red and pink sandstone and looks like a pyramid of five storeys. The palace sits on a foundation platform that is fifty feet high. The distinctive five-story exterior has 953 small windows decorated with intricate latticework called jharokhas. The Palace’s entrance is a door opening into a special courtyard surrounded by several two-story houses. Of the Mahal’s five floors, the top three floors have the thickness of a single room while the courtyards are on the bottom stories. The palace’s interior is truly elegant. The palace’s upper floors are reachable by ascending the steep ramps. Within the Hawa Mahal, there are no escalators.
