For both the Hindus and the Buddhists, Guhyeshwari Temple is an important pilgrimage destination. Located about one kilometer east of the main Temple of Pashupatinath, it is one of the most important temples in the Pashupatinath area. Recognized as a Peetha Shakti (power) it is a symbol of power. A body part of Sati Devi (Lord Shiva ‘s wife) is believed to have fallen after her death at the exact spot the temple is now located in. King Pratap Malla founded this temple in the 17th century.
Pashupatinath and Guhyeshwari are lovely examples of harmony between the Shiva and Shakti. Located on the banks of the Bagmati River, the temple portrays the sacred female hand. Guhyeshwari is also known for its Rituals of Tantrik (esoteric Hindu tradition). Those who will gain power are believed to visit this temple to worship Mother Goddess.
