In Tulsipur, which is about 120 Kms from Ayodhya & approx. 25 km from the district headquarters of Balrampur, Devi Patan is a very famous temple. It is Ma Pateshwari’s temple and goes by the name Devi Patan. One of the famous 51 Shakti Peethas of Ma Durga is the temple.

The right shoulder (called Pat in Hindi) of Mata Sati is said to have dropped here and is hence also one of the Shakti Peetha and is called Devi Patan. It is a place of great religious significance and one of the Terai region’s popular temples.

The temple is of great religious significance and during the time of Navratra, there is a lot of hurry.

People often come here for their children’s head-shaving ceremony (often referred to as Mundan) or to donate hair in case Mundan is performed somewhere else. It’s considered holy to have hair donated here.
