The famous Awantipora temples is an historic temple built by king Awanti Warman. The famous Awantipora temples are believed to be built in honour of God Mahadev by king Awantivarman. Avantishwar temple located at Jawbrari is devoted to Siva on the banks of the River Jhelum (Vitasta). Another temple Avantiswamin temple dedicated to Vishnu is near by. The Vaikunta Vishnu illustrated as frontispiece is claimed to be found in temple. Both temples are quite similar structurally. The walls of the doorway are ornamented with sculptured reliefs both internally and externally. The temples were destroyed by earthquakes. Tourist can easly reach to awantipora temple from Srinagar.
