Jaswant Thada

Jaswant Thada, a majestic marble cenotaph shrine, which is also a mausoleum for Marwar kings, lies in the royal state of Jodhpur. The memorial was built in 1899 by his son Maharaja Sardar Singh in the honor and memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, and is still used as cremation grounds by the Marwar Royal Family. The elegant edifice consists of intricately carved marble which is vibrantly offset against the red steps leading up to the entrance. Jaswant Thada is considered an architectural landmark in Jodhpur, and must be seen by everyone. One can see local musicians and folk dancers entertain the tourists on the steps leading up to the monument.

There is also a beautifully tended garden in the cenotaph, which visitors can visit along with the monument. The intricate artistry can be explored on carved marbles. Worth appreciating are the skillfully carved thin sheets of marble. The entire structure resembles a temple whose beauty is unparalleled. This is also known as Marwar’s Taj Mahal, and draws visitors from around the world.
