The Pichola Lake is a manmade lake in the center of Udaipur, Rajasthan. The oldest and one of the city’s biggest lakes, Lake Pichola, with its quietness and elegance, observes lakhs of visitors. Surrounded by high hills, heritage buildings and ghats bathing, it’s a dream come true for lovers of peace and nature. A visit to Lake Pichola without a boat ride is incomplete, particularly during the dawn. It seems the entire area was dipped in gold during the evenings, because you can see the heritage buildings and the pure water turning silver with the reflection of the sun. Built by Pichhu Banjara during Maharana Lakha’s ruling era in 1362 AD, Lake Pichola is 3 miles long, 2 miles wide and 30 feet deep. Charmed by the beauty of the lake, Maharana Udai Singh expanded it and also constructed a dam on the lake’s shores. A cherry on the cake is the lush green hills in the background with plenty of royal palaces along its banks. Udaipur’s magnificent City Palace adorns the eastern banks while the Mohan Mandir is situated at the north-eastern corner. The famous Lake Palace is perfectly situated in the centre, and the Jag Mandir is on Jag Island.
